BoltBoltKVM privacy: local by architecture.
BoltKVM is a local-network utility. Its privacy boundary comes from the way the app is built: the product requires no server, account, or connection home.
What BoltKVM does
BoltKVM hands pointer, keyboard, button, and scroll control between trusted Macs on the same local network. Clipboard content and one regular file are transferred only when you explicitly send them.
- Local discovery. Each Mac announces itself on the local network so the others can find it. Announcements are limited to your network and are not forwarded to us.
- Verified pairing. The first time two Macs meet, both sides confirm a pairing code. After that, each accepts only devices it has verified, bound to a persistent identity stored on the Mac.
- Encrypted sessions. Input, clipboard content, and file transfers between paired Macs run over encrypted sessions.
- Bounded wake recovery. An explicit Reconnect can attempt to wake a sleeping trusted Mac when network-wake prerequisites are available. Crossing a display edge is not a general full-sleep wake command.
What BoltKVM never does
- Account-free runtime. The Mac app has no product account or hosted profile.
- Product analytics are absent. BoltKVM does not collect usage telemetry or phone home.
- Device traffic remains local. BoltKVM does not tunnel through a cloud relay when the Macs are on different networks.
- Screens stay on each Mac. Input and explicitly transferred clipboard or file content can cross the local network; screen pixels are not transmitted.
- macOS security stays intact. BoltKVM does not disable or bypass FileVault or any macOS security control.
What we store
BoltKVM stores local device and trust identities, wake endpoints, display arrangements, settings, rotating diagnostic logs, and temporary transfer data needed to deliver a file. These records stay on the Macs you use; BoltKVM operates no cloud relay or product analytics service.
Website analytics: boltkvm.com uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate page views, traffic sources, and website performance. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies or collect visitors' personal data, and this website measurement is separate from the BoltKVM Mac app. See Cloudflare Web Analytics.
Contact: messages sent to support@boltkvm.com are handled separately from the Mac app. A public website and support service may have their own operational data and retention requirements.
